TAPP 2 Twist Sustainable filter review – is this water filter worth your time?

Water...one of the most basic and important necessities of life. In the past, people would have to walk to a river to get water and in the more recent past, they’d go on a slightly shorter walk to a well! Nowadays, we are lucky enough to have flowing water readily available in our homes...but when it comes to drinking water, how potable is it really?

A matter of convenience

Although water in Malta is meant to be safe to drink, the taste can be really awful to say the least! Not to mention all the chemicals and microplastics we consume and anything else the water may pick up along the way. So the majority of us opt for other means of bringing drinking water into our homes; the most common of which remains purchasing bottled water. At least that’s the method I’d used for years...but honestly, how convenient is this really? It was the one thing I hated the most about living in a second floor apartment with no lift, climbing the stairs with those impractical water six packs!

The amount of plastic

But since moving house, it’s the plastic that started bothering me. We’re now a family of four and the amount of bottles we were throwing into the recycling bin had reached colossal proportions. Not to mention that recently certain water producers doubled up the amount of plastic packaging on the outer shell of the six pack?!? The whole thing just felt so wrong.

So, what to do?

I couldn’t get myself to install a reverse osmosis knowing that for every liter of water filtered, it wastes between 3 and 5 liters of water...that, to me, went against all of my principles. So our first step, was to opt for a water dispenser and for a while we were happy. But sure enough, it became inconvenient to wait around for a delivery every two weeks, and even more inconvenient to drive to the exchange point each time we missed the delivery!

Finally, I came across the TAPP 2 Twist water filter. A cute, affordable, compact filter which you simply attach to your kitchen mixer and...there you have it!

Filtered potable water flowing straight out of your tap! The only thing you have to remember to do is to change the cartridge once every three months (there’s actually a dial on the top which will help remind you). You can even switch between filtered and non-filtered water just at the turn of a little lever which is attached to the gadget itself; thus saving the cartridge for when you really need it.

Why oh why hadn’t I thought of this sooner? The truth is, it is fairly recent in Malta. The Malta CEO Phil Richards came across this product after carrying out an extensive search for a convenient solution to the potable water dilemma, also focusing on sustainability. He wanted a product which is convenient, attractive, cost efficient, easy to use and sustainable; a product which works now and will continue to work in the future with the way the world’s focus is shifting towards sustainability. ‘TAPP Water is a Barcelona born start-up that answers a specific need: to be able to drink tap water with taste and quality warranted.’

The verdict

I honestly found it absolutely right for my family. It is compact, good looking, easy to use and tastes great. I have to admit, it did take me a couple of days to get used to the new taste when compared to bottled water, but I now want nothing else. And I love the peace of mind that comes with knowing I’m not swallowing microplastics each time I have a drink of water.

How does it work?

A detailed explanation is available on: https://tappwater.co/en/how-does-faucet-water-filters-work/. But in short, the filter is made from the highest quality activated carbon block with 1-2 micron filtration. The water flows through the filter with high pressure and out comes clean better tasting water. The carbon block is made of organic coconut shell.

It removes more than 100 water contaminants including heavy metals and microplastics; while on the other hand retaining the minerals that are good for us. The cartridges have a three month lifeline and can be replaced by simply removing the outer cap and replacing the cartridge.

How to get hold of one and what to expect:

I ordered mine online from the TAPP Water website: https://tappwater.mt/ after which I received an ‘Order Confirmation’ email. Delivery takes between one to two working days (depending on what time the order was placed). I received a message notifying me that the package was on it’s way, after which it was conveniently delivered straight to my door.

My brand new product arrived packed in a simple little brown box, with no fuss or waste. And upon opening it I found my shiny white filter, together with a teeny brown paper bag containing a screw on cap which I used to attach to my tap.

Installation is quick and easy; however, should you have any difficulties, the after sales service is excellent and TAPP Water also have a FAQ section on their website which you can refer to for assistance with tap installations. They can even provide you with a technician should the need arise. I know from experience because of my very non-existent handyman knowledge!

Once the filter is attached to your tap, just turn the little lever up and open your tap to let the water flow (I initially let it flow for a few seconds before tasting the water seeing that it was the first time water was going through the carbon block). What’s more, TAPP Water even offer a 45 day money back guarantee to try it out at your own time in your homes...making it a risk free purchase.

And there you have it! No more carrying heavy six packs to and fro (or up and down); no more guilt about using plastic just for drinking water and no more drinking microplastics. Plus, I’m also saving money! Honestly, what more could I ask for? (Can you tell that I love it?!?).
